The Promises

"We will be amazed before we are half way through."
"We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness."
"We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it."
"We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others."
"That feeling of uselessness and selfpity will disappear."
"We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows."
"Self-seeking will slip away."
"Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change."
"Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us."
"We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us."
"We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves."

Staying Sober and Keeping in Emotional Balance

by Dallas B.

Emotional Sobriety: Emotions produce euphoric and intoxicating effects. They can produce a sense of ease and comfort and contentment. When we are operating under the influence of our emotions verses the influence of our intelligence — we are Emotionally Inebriate.

The euphoric and intoxicating effects of Emotional Inebriation can produce a dependency and even an addiction to the emotional states. Withdrawal of Emotional Inebriation often results with the toxic feelings of guilt, remorse, depression, resentment, feelings of personal inadequacy, loneliness, restlessness, irritability, discontentment, and the similar physical symptoms in our body that are often associated with a “hang over” or withdrawal from being under the influence of alcohol and other drugs.

So, it isn’t any wonder why — a pattern develops of a return to “chasing the euphoria of the emotional state” that requires certain behavioral and psychological dependencies, scenarios, individuals, experiences and conditions — to produce the desired emotional state.

Emotional Sobriety: By learning how to discipline, control & create our desired emotional states — and eliminate our undesired emotional states — we can turn Polar Bears into Polar Puppies without Pills, Pot or Alcohol.

The detailed instructions for Step Ten, in the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, indicate that we have moved into a different phase of our recovery — and that one of the main objectives is to grow in understanding and effectiveness.  The book indicates that by this time our sanity, in regards to alcohol will have been restored. That we begin to act sane and normal.

To grow in understanding: Here, we begin to practice living our lives based upon sound thinking — rather than emotional reactions.  We begin to make decisions and choices using our Intellect rather than being controlled or dependant upon our Emotions.

Are the 12 Steps Only Suggestions?

Are the 12 Steps Only Suggestions?

Can you imagine the reaction in a meeting, if  Bill W.,  the Co-Founder of AA, said the following in a meeting today — as he wrote in the book, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions:

“Unless each A.A. member follows to the best of his ability our suggested Twelve Steps to recovery, he almost certainly signs his own death warrant. His drunkenness and dissolution are not penalties inflicted by people in authority; they result from his personal disobedience to spiritual principles.”
~Bill W. pg 174, 12&12

Oh what an order!

When I read the above quote from Bill W. in the 12 &12 this morning — I wondered what the Fellowships of today would have said to him if he said that in one of their meetings. OMG! Bill! Love & Tolerance! Progress rather than Perfection! You’ll drive the newcomers out Bill! — those are only suggestions!!! Easy Does it! Bill! You sound like one of those Big Book Thumpers!

Bill W. is a C0-Founder of AA. He wrote the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous — for the original Pioneer’s in the Fellowship of A.A.

TWELVE SIGNS OF A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

by 12 Step Groups

It is suggested we use the 12 Steps in the same way that a parachute instructor suggests that we use a parachute when we jump out of an airplane, we don’t have to take the suggestions, but there are definite consequences if we don’t.

TWELVE SIGNS OF A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING12 Step Spiritual Awakening

1. An increased tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.

2. Frequent attacks of smiling.

3. Feelings of being connected with others and nature.

4. Frequent overwhelming episodes of appreciation.

5. A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than from fears based on past experience.

6. An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.

7. A loss of ability to worry.

8. A loss of interest in conflict.

9. A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.

10. A loss of interest in judging others.

11. A loss of interest in judging self.

12. Gaining the ability to love without expecting anything in return.

Spiritual Tool-kit

“When, therefore, we were approached by those in whom the problem had been solved, there was nothing left for us but to pick up the simple kit of spiritual tools laid at our feet. We have found much of heaven and we have been rocketed into a fourth dimension of existence of which we had not even dreamed.”
~Alcoholics Anonymous, pg 25
